The black-footed cat is the smallest
African cat, possibly the smallest cat in the world. Its coat is light
brown, slightly darker on top, with dark brown or black spots, streaked on
its cheeks, throat, chest and belly, and with transverse bars on its
forelegs and haunches. Its feet have black soles. The black-footed cat may
be found in the deserts and savannahs of southern Africa, where it hunts
by night and twilight, from the ground, and seeks small rodents, birds,
reptiles, and insects.
