ROCKY'S BIG ADVENTURE

On May 2, 2001, Little Rocky kicked off his trip around the world with a picnic on the grass at Brentwood Hall in Nashville, Tennessee.  (upper left).

He originally wanted to go around the world in 80 days, but after looking at the cost of cruise ships and balloon flights decided to go by first class mail.  Maybe it would take a whole year, but it would be so much cheaper!

A year.  It sounded possible, then he got caught in the terrible aftermath of something we now call "9/11" and his smooth journey through the world postal service hit some very rough patches.

It ended up taking him two years, three months and sixteen days to come home.  Of course he had to have his picture taken in the same place at Brentwood Hall before heading back to Little Nala's arms on August 22, 2003.  (lower right).  As you can see, he looks a little more tired, and a lot more wise.

Little Nala had baked a devils food cake which the little devil devoured with scarcely a thought, only to get himself a lion-sized tummy ache!  Of course it wasn't the only time he ate to excess, and Nala took that up with his veterinarian.  The doctor was shaking his head at all the extra ounces he had put on, and the next morning all he found on his plate was a stalk of celery and a glass of orange juice.  Poor fellow!
